Interviewing teen populations requires a specialized body of knowledge and experience. Since so many teenagers are no longer reachable via landline telephone, alternative methodologies are critical. Younger populations also require special sensitivity when asked about health issues and sexual behaviors, as well as other topics such as drug use.

Many studies conducted by SSRS aim to interview a teenage or preteen member of the household along with a parent within the same household. Complex studies such as these require a keen understanding of the best methods to secure participation of two very different persons in the same household. SSRS thrives on these kinds of challenges and has successfully conducted several such studies on a range of topics over the past five years.

Survey instruments for teens must be even more carefully crafted than those administered to adults. SSRS knows how to operationalize concepts into valid and reliable measures and indicators specifically designed for young adults.
