Challenging Topics
Teen Pregnancy: Periodically, SSRS conducts studies for The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. These studies are of particular note because they involve administering sensitive survey questions to teen and preteen survey respondents. SSRS has developed strategies to attain valid data with such instruments and, when needed, to secure the permission of the parent to administer such surveys. For reports and data see March 2007: http://www.thenationalcampaign.org/resources/pdf/pubs/Voices_engFINAL.pdf
Steroid Use: The Partnership for a Drug-Free America contracted with SSRS to conduct a survey of high school students to assess their use of and attitudes toward steroids. As with all topics of a sensitive nature, SSRS shaped the development of the instrument and conducted extensive interviewer training in order to maximize survey validity and minimize social desirability effects. Conducted for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and Luker.
